Beyond Benih Boosts Food Security for 155,000 B40 Communities, Set for Expansion in 2026

British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad (BAT Malaysia or the Group) today shared 2025 progress of Beyond Benih, the Group’s flagship community investment programme which supports B40 communities through sustainable, community-led farm gardens.

Kuala Lumpur, 30 December 2025 – British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad (BAT Malaysia or the Group) today shared 2025 progress of Beyond Benih, the Group’s flagship community investment programme which supports B40 communities through sustainable, community-led farm gardens. Since its launch in 2022, the programme has benefitted around 155,000 beneficiaries by providing access to affordable, fresh produce grown through good agricultural practices.

To date, 22 community gardens have been established across Peninsular Malaysia, operated by 240 Resident Association (RA) members who lead daily operations. These gardens drive sustainable livelihoods by enabling residents to grow their own produce, with 60% of the produce sold to beneficiaries at 30% below market price and the remaining 40% at market price to generate revenue to sustain the gardens.

Beyond Benih is implemented in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DoA), local authorities and RAs, equipping communities with funding, resources, agricultural knowledge and technical guidance.

Nedal Salem, Managing Director of BAT Malaysia, said, “We remain committed to maintaining a tangible difference for Malaysians. By developing larger, higher-capacity gardens and expanding into new states, we aim to support even more families and build long-term resilience. Beyond Benih reflects our long-term commitment to empowering communities in meaningful, practical ways. BAT Malaysia aims to support an estimated 250,000 beneficiaries by the end of 2026.”

Through the years, the programme has also received multiple recognitions at state-level events for innovation and community impact.

Beyond Benih - Enhancing Food Security in B40 Communities

Voices from RA members and Beneficiaries

Hajah Siti Radziah bt Mohd Said, Head of RA, Kampung Abdul Rahman Yassin, Kluang:

“My community garden continues to grow, and I’ve been able to build strong bonds and connections with the members of Beyond Benih. I can provide my family and community with much-needed healthy and fresh vegetables. May this programme continue to achieve an even greater success, Alhamdulillah.”

Rosina Bt Sidek, Felda Pasoh 01, Jelebu:

“I am grateful to BATM and Felda for supporting this local project. We’ve learned to grow crops without chemical pesticides and to make our own organic fertiliser and natural pest control solutions. The produce has been well received by the community, and at times demand is so high that we can’t keep up!”
