BAT Malaysia Names New MD


Petaling Jaya, 1 September 2009 – British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad (BAT Malaysia) is pleased to announce today that Jack Bowles, its current Managing Director, has been promoted to a British American Tobacco p.l.c. management board position as Regional Director, Western Europe, a region consisting of more than 30 countries. Bowles will be succeeded by William Toh Ah Wah, who will be BAT Malaysia’s first ever Malaysian Managing Director, with effect from 1 October 2009.

During his tenure at BAT Malaysia, Bowles has succeeded in strengthening the Company’s leadership position in the country’s tobacco industry despite mounting challenges to the business. His tireless people efforts also saw him cementing BAT Malaysia’s position as one of the best employers in the country. In his new role, Bowles will relocate to the Group’s headquarters in London.

BAT Malaysia’s incoming Managing Director, William Toh, has had an illustrious career with BAT spanning almost three decades. Toh joined the Company in 1981 as a management trainee and held various marketing roles including Area Manager and Marketing Manager. He was later seconded overseas with leadership roles in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Pakistan. In 2007 he was promoted to be Director of BAT’s South Asia Area (Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka). Toh is currently the Head of Indonesia Area (covering markets of Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines) and the Regional Project Manager for BAT Asia Pacific.
