Hands-on experience in one of the most complete supply chains among the manufacturing industry

Being a fresh graduate, my job has challenged me in every way possible as British American Tobacco Malaysia has one of the most complete supply chains among the manufacturing industry. It proved difficult in the beginning but however, through perseverance and with support from my colleagues, I have developed my functional competencies along with relationship and leadership skills. The hands-on experience is amazing since I get the opportunity to understand the supply chain as a whole and recognise my role within it.

Fast-paced working environment that the only constant is change

The Global Management Trainee program provides a clear two-year development plan that offers specialisation in a function of choice and a wide understanding of the business through cross-functional business awareness. The opportunity to rotate within the different areas of Finance was really appealing as I get a really sound understanding of the business. Of course diversity also comes with its challenges! It is a very dynamic role and reminds me of this quote “the only constant is change” as things are always changing in the different departments that I have been attached, due to a dynamic business environment. However, at British American Tobacco Malaysia you learn best with hands on experience and that is something that I have found very rewarding.

Opportunity to leverage on key learnings and best practices globally

The global scale of the company gives endless possibilities for networking and most importantly, leveraging on key learnings and best practices. I was tasked to drive an innovative talent sourcing project, Shape Our World that had been successfully implemented in British American Tobacco Bangladesh and British American Tobacco Korea which involved university students to solve a business case study as a team. By leveraging and sharing of best practices, it allowed us to design a robust and engaging program for Malaysia. It is an added advantage to be able to leverage on the strength we have in global resource and at the same time forge bonds with our other colleagues in the region.

Opportunity to implement key local, regional and global IT solutions

IT was my first choice as it gives me various opportunities to work with colleagues from various functions in implementing key local, regional and global IT solutions. Being a part of several project teams challenged me to assess and address issues and risks whilst ensuring we deliver on our objectives and business continuity. It’s a steep learning curve but I have absolutely no regrets!
