Hendrik Stoel (Erik)

Managing Director

Erik Stoel was officially appointed a Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad and as Managing Director of the Group on 1 June 2016.

Erik first joined the British American Tobacco Group in 1995 as Brand Manager in Ukraine. He has now more than twenty years of international experience in the BAT Group that spans across the London Head Office, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific markets. One of Erik’s assignments was to serve as Marketing Director of BAT Malaysia in 2010-2012 before moving to Korea as BAT Korea’s Marketing Director. Subsequently, he was promoted to his prior role of Area Director North Asia Area, responsible for Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Erik holds a degree in Marketing from Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Netherlands and Masters in Business Administration from University of Northumbria at Newcastle, England.

Linda Song

Legal & External Affairs Director

Linda was appointed as Legal & External Affairs Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on August 1, 2018. Linda joined BAT in 2001 as Legal Manager, Singapore and has held a number of roles in various markets in the Region including Vietnam, Cambodia and Hong Kong.  She also has worked in a project role and in above market entities prior to her appointment in her previous role in April 2015.

In the last 3 years, Linda has successfully driven the LEX agenda in the Region including integrating LEX as a single function, ensuring an effective way of working, implementing a robust governance agenda and focusing on the functional training and upskilling of LEX managers to support the LEX talent pipeline.  She has also supported multiple business transformation projects and BAT’s shareholder interest in the China JV, along with driving the APLG workshops and communications agenda.

In her current role as the Legal & External Affairs Director, Linda is responsible for corporate and regulatory affairs and legal matters of the Group.

Ricardo Guardo

Finance Director
(Non-Independant Executive Director)


Ricardo Guardo assumed the role of Finance Director, British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad and was officially appointed a Director of the Group on 1 September 2016.

Ricardo first joined British American Tobacco’s entity straight out of university as a Planning & Reporting Executive in Uruguay in 2002 and has held various Finance positions in Argentina since then which include exposure as Regional Process Auditor for the Americas Region and later business partnering in the Marketing space.

In 2011, Ricardo was appointed Head of Finance in Taiwan, where he was also the Chairperson on the Control and Fraud committee, Tax and Treasury committee and the Pre-sales Operation & Planning meeting on top of being a member of the prominent CFO Chamber in Taiwan. In late 2012, he was transferred to Hong Kong to assume the role of Regional Finance Manager for Asia Pacific where he actively validated financial statements for the region and provided guidance to the Regional Audit Committee on the control environment in the regional operations. Subsequently, Ricardo assumed the role of Head of Finance in Romania where BAT was the biggest FMCG in the country.

Ricardo holds a degree in Business Administration from Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina.

C K Remeena Prabhakaran

Operations Director

Remeena was appointed as Operations Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on March 1, 2018. Prior to her current role, she was the Head of British American Tobacco’s Asia Pacific Supply Service Center from July 2014 to February 2018. During this time, she was instrumental for the implementation of the new ways of working in accordance to the Global Supply Chain Model. She has also standardized and led the organizational changes of the Supply Chain structures within the BAT entities in Asia Pacific.

Remeena joined BAT in 2012 as the ASPAC Head of Category & Sourcing Manager within the Procurement function where she drove several cost saving initiatives. In 2013, she was promoted as the Regional Head of Procurement and was responsible in the implementation to transform the Procurement function a Global Line function. Remeena had over 15 years of experience in Supply Chain in the Tobacco Industry prior to joining BAT. She had successfully managed 2 key integration projects when she was with Philip Morris International.

Remeena holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Microbiology & Genetics from University Malaya.

Karl Yap Chee Keong

Marketing Director

Karl Yap was appointed Marketing Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 October 2016. He first joined British American Tobacco’s entity in Malaysia as a Management Trainee in 1998 and has held various positions in Marketing since then.

In 2006, he joined the International Brand Group in London as Senior International Brand Manager. Upon completion, he returned to British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad and assumed the position of Area Head of Strategy, Planning & Insights and subsequently Area Head of Trade. Before being appointed to his current role, he was the Head of Marketing in British American Tobacco Philippines.

Karl holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Hawaii Pacific University in the United States.

Samanmali Chandrasiri

Human Resources Director
Sri Lankan

Samanmali Chandrasiri was appointed Human Resources Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 March 2016.

Having first joined the BAT Group as a Management Trainee, Samanmali has now been of service with the Group for 16 years. She has held various HR roles in Sri Lanka and South Asia including Area Head of Talent SAA, before moving to Indonesia as the Organisation Effectiveness Advisor for Bentoel Group. Samanmali later returned to Sri Lanka in 2013 as the HR Director where she facilitated the implementation of a more sustainable business model prior to her current role.

Samanmali holds a BSc in Management from the University of London and an MBA from Edith Cowan University, Australia.


Vicente Costa

Business Development Director

Vicente was appointed as Business Development Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on September 1, 2018. Vicente joined BAT in 1980 and has held a number of Market and Regional responsibilities, mainly in TM&D, R&S & BD.

In South Africa, Vicente has led the strategic design and evolution of TM&D; improving overall customer coverage, better volume control, speed and scale in execution, price compliance and changes in TM&D structures. He has optimised retail margins releasing resources to reinvest, secured and restored Key Account relationships and reconfigured our Risk and Security services resulting in historic lows of high-jackings on our staff. Over and above this, he has again overseen the Secondary Supply Chain in the last year.

Vicente is an Economist and Business Administrator, holds a Master in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). He also has an Executive MBA from COPPEAD.
