Stefano Clini joined the BAT Group in early 2013 and was officially appointed as Managing Director of British American Tobacco Malaysia on 1st July 2013.
He holds a Degree in Business and Economics from the Libera Universita Internazionale Degli Studi Sociali (L.U.I.S.S.) in Rome, Italy.
Stefano began his career in Procter & Gamble and held various senior leadership roles in the company for the next 15 years.
His career in Procter & Gamble saw him take on various assignments in countries such as Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and Turkey.
He then joined Heinz Italia S.p.A as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2005 before assuming the role of President, Global Infant & Nutrition in 2010 and subsequently joining the BAT Group 3 years later.
Christine Lee Oi Kuan
Corporate and Legal Affairs Director
Christine Lee Oi Kuan joined British American Tobacco Malaysia in August 2001 as Head of Legal & Secretarial Services. She holds a degree in law from the University of Malaya. Christine started her career with the Attorney General’s Chambers in 1983 and had served in the Prosecution and Advisory and International Law Divisions of the Attorney General’s Chambers before moving on to join the private sector as the Legal Manager and Company Secretary of two public listed companies, Hong Leong Industries Berhad and Malaysia Pacific Industries Berhad.
On 1 September 2006, Christine Lee assumed the role of Corporate and Legal Affairs Director of British American Tobacco Malaysia.
Andreas Michael Thompson
Andreas Thompson was appointed a Director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad on 1 March 2011. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and holds a Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) from the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, United Kingdom. He joined British American Tobacco p.l.c. as Finance Graduate Trainee in 1993 whereupon graduation he undertook a number of Finance roles within the Asia Pacific region. Over the last ten years he has held various positions including Director of Marketing Finance of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation Inc (2001-2004), Finance & IT Director of A/T British American Tobacco Prilucky Tobacco Company (2004-2007), Area Finance Director of the Middle East & Caucasus (2007-2008).
Prior to his appointment with British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad as Finance Director, Andreas led the Finance integration of BAT’s ST (Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni A/S) acquisition, thereafter becoming the Head of Finance for the Northern Europe Cluster (2008-2011) based in Denmark.
Joel Solomon joined British American Tobacco Malaysia in 1999 as an Operations Management Trainee. He holds an Engineering Degree from the University of Malaya and held various roles in Material Development, Procurement and Factory Operations before moving on to a senior management role in 2004 - taking charge of Primary Manufacturing and then Secondary Manufacturing.
Subsequently, he was appointed as Supply Planning Manager in 2007, covering a wider scope of end-to-end planning as well as defining the supply footprint for Malaysia. Two years later Joel was seconded to Singapore to pioneer the setup of the regional planning hub in his capacity as Regional Production Planning Manager. In 2011, he was appointed as Regional Supply Planning Manager to head both production planning and distribution planning before returning to Malaysia in mid-2012 with a focus on Supply Chain key processes and controls.
Effective 1 January 2013, Joel assumed the role of Operations Director of British American Tobacco Malaysia.
Marcelo Alvarenga Guimaraes
Marcelo Alvarenga Guimaraes began his career with British American Tobacco Souza Cruz in 1995 as a Finance Trainee, having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1994 from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From 1995 – 1999, Marcelo held the roles of Trade Research Coordinator, Area Sales Manager and subsequently Category Manager before leaving the company to pursue his MBA in Manchester Business School, United Kingdom.
Upon his return to the company in 2002, he took on the role of Marketing Planning Manager in BAT Latin America and Caribbean for two years before being assigned to two consecutive secondments in British American Tobacco Caribbean and Central America, Costa Rica and Nobleza Piccardo, Argentina respectively. In 2007, Marcelo returned to British American Tobacco Souza Cruz as Brand Segment Manager and then as Head of Brands before making the move to British American Tobacco p.l.c in London to assume the role of Marketing Sustainability and Innovation Manager and subsequently, as Group Head of Strategy Development.
Effective 1 January 2013, Marcelo assumed the role of Marketing Director of British American Tobacco Malaysia.
Human Resources Director
Murali Thanabalan joined British American Tobacco Malaysia in July 1997 as Compensation and Benefits Manager. He holds a degree in economics and statistics from the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining the Company, Murali was attached to Sony Sales and Service as Human Resources Manager and subsequently United Parcel Service as South East Asia Head of Human Resources.
Post the merger of Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) Berhad and Malaysian Tobacco Company Berhad in 1999, Murali was appointed Rewards Manager with the key focus of integrating the rewards platform. He then ventured out to pursue other interests in 2000 before rejoining the Company the following year. Murali was then seconded to British American Tobacco Nigeria as Rewards Manager in 2002, where he then became Rewards Manager for West and Central Africa before succeeding as Human Resources Director for British American Tobacco Nigeria. Murali then moved to Kenya as Area Head of Human Resources of Sub Saharan Africa before returning in the same capacity to South Asia Area in 2010.
On 1 March 2012, Murali assumed the role of Human Resources Director of British American Tobacco Malaysia.
Azlan bin Ibrahim
Head of Business Development Services
Azlan bin Ibrahim joined the British American Tobacco(Malaysia) Berhad in June 1987 as a Marketing management trainee, after completing his education from the University of Southern Illinois, USA. He underwent a nine months training period where he was then sent to Pahang to be the Acting Area Sales Manager from 1988 to 1989. He was then confirmed as the Area Sales Manager in 1989. Thereafter, Azlan was transferred to Kota Bharu to look after the Kelantan and Terengganu markets. In 1993, he was made the Regional Sales Manager for the Northern Region.
Azlan was promoted to the role of Sales Manager in 1994 and during the pre-merger period, he was assigned to the role of National Sales Manager for Rothmans. Post-merger, he became the Regional Trade and Distribution Manager until 2001.
In 2002, after 15 years in Marketing, Azlan was made the Business Development Manager. In 2003, he became the Head of Business Development and in 2011, he was given the responsibility to also be in-charge of Security and changed his position to Head of Business Development Services
